Camper: "Gilboa is a swirling mass of vividly colorful
memories embedded in my mind and in my heart. The experiences, laughter,
wisdom, and friendships I have gained from my years here are always
sweetly remembered, and I am extremely thankful that my life has
been enriched so greatly by Gilboa and its amazing individuals."
..."Gilboa is a refuge, a haven within which all inhibitions,
negativity, chaos, stumbling, cruelty, maliciousness, and pollution
of my mind and body are stripped away. An amalgamation of love,
peace, tranquillity, self-worth, joyousness, and beauty is awakened
in the spirit of every person who is fortunate enough to be touched
by this electrifying force."
Parent: "The first
year my daughter went to Camp Gilboa she cried when she got on the
bus to go. When she returned that first year and every year after,
she cried getting off the bus and wanted to go "home",
back to Camp Gilboa. The program emphasizes the acceptance and self
worth of each camper and enables friendships within and across the
age groups that create a quality of experience that can last a lifetime.
Kids who may feel ostracized during the year find inclusion and
acceptance at Camp Gilboa and all campers can benefit and grow in
ways that contribute to their self-esteem, creativity, and appreciation
of the world around them. "
Camper: "...Sure I come
back to Gilboa every year because of the fun things we do, but there
is a power that just can not be said or expressed with words. It
is a power that draws us here and allows us to speak with a freedom
that I just don't see anywhere else."
Camper: "...I'm happiness
and I'm in a happy place- -Gilboa-"
Counselor (former camper):
"...Year after year, summer after summer, the question always
remains, what is it that makes Gilboa so special? How is it that
even the most reserved and seemingly apathetic chanich (camper)
is brought to tears on the last day? How can it be that kids used
to the perks and luxuries of private day schools and unparalleled
sports camps fall in love with a place where bug bites are more
common than candy bars...A common answer is 'It's the people.' ....Its
the interactions between people, the bond, the community...Its the
reason I nearly cried when I heard an eleven year old girl say this
summer, 'I love Gilboa the way.. (all the)..kids can be a family.'...Kids
with diverse, unique, and incredible personalities...that in all
honesty would not be friends if they had simply met at school. In
the outside world they wouldn't have even gotten the chance to get
to know each other, but at Gilboa they are family." |
